The Alun Railway is a railway located in the mountains of Wales that specialises in mining work. The line was founded in the 1860s by Hans Gerralt and is nows owned and run by his son, Caderyn Gerralt.
History[]
The Alun Railway was founded 1860 as a mining institution by Hans Gerralt. In 1867, Neb the handcar arrived. In 1870, a specially commissioned mining engine was built for the line, Arwel. In 1880, a steam powered inspection vehicle, Matthew, was built and another engine, Proteus, was purchased to help with the increasing demands. In 1886, Mighty Mac was won by Hans in a card game with Charles Easton Spooner, the Ffestiniog Railway's dark horse. In 1901, Hywel arrived. In 1905, Bertram was purchased.
